RBE971S- Verifying I Don't Accidentally Purchase a Satellite.
Hello, I am looking to add an Access Point to my current system. I am interested in the Orbi 970 Series single Router unit that I see on netgear.com. I found a recent post with the router unit ...

There is no RBE971S. After 8 years, Netgear changed the naming convention for Orbi products.
Since 2016, Orbis were named:
- RBRxx0 for the 'router'
- RBSxx0 for the 'satellite'
- RBKxxx for a 'kit' containing one router and a number of satellites
The WiFi7 970 and 770 products are named
- RBE971 and RBE771 for the 'router
- RBE970 and RBE770 for the 'satellite'
- RBE972S and RBE973S for a 'set' consisting of two or three devices (one router and one or two satellites)
Annoying.
- jzchenNov 24, 2024TutorThank you for clarifying! (I'm sure it doesn't help that I prefer the white, or is that "S"ilver over black). When I click the single unit option, (which is sometimes separated with the regular routers section, and at other times like now with the multipacks on sale with the 970 2 and 3 packs)...

RBE973S or any S after the model number is just marketing for Armor and that particular bundled package with S means it comes with 1 year of free Armor subscription.

The "S" explanation makes sense. Because when I select the black option the little part number changes to "RBE971SB".
Thank you all for the very helpful information!
I was wondering if it is a good idea to try to purchase a more recently manufactured router vs one that has been sitting on the shelves for a while? And possibly any good leads to where they have high turnover? (I was tempted to go to MicroCenter today which is about 30 mi away but sadly I see no $100 off sale to price match, so I got lazy)...
- Roc1Nov 24, 2024Luminary“970” is used in the Netgear Wifi 7 Series name which is probably what causes the confusion, as “970” is also used in the model number (RBE970) of the satellite(s) used in an Orbi 970 Series WiFi 7 mesh node network behind an RBE971 model Router.
