Re: Wired vs Wireless

I have a wired backhaul running between the Router and one satellite. I have used a Cat6e, Cat7 and now on a Cat8 cable. 100' I get a faster wireless speed out of the satellite when the wired backhaul is removed and I use wireless for backhaul between the two! I'm running the cable from a 10g port in the router "directly" to the satellite with no switch in between. This makes no sense to me.

Attached is a copy of connections and all seems well. What am I missing?

Getting there…It seems the more I do the better it gets. If they are wired backhaul you want to have them away the most you can from each other naturally. But at the same time placement is also a big thing for wireless. I guess I expected more than I am getting thru-put but yes, it’s getting better thanks,

These old houses beachside in Daytona are an issue. Built like a Faraday cage with chicken wire and real plaster. Good for hurricanes but not for RF. I have a satellite at a house I own across the street and just keep ready for friends and family if they want to come down. I get 244Mbps to a AppleTV over there, a ring camera and an Amazon plug over there!

But one in my house won’t go thru 3 walls here to my generator outside with over a 20% signal? Go figure. Now the app, it needs work. But I do like them and keep working on it! Not one to give up. I’ll know it inside and out when done. Thanks for asking and everyone’s suggestions.

  • Now many RBS do you have?

How are you speed testing? Wireless or ethernet at the RBS?

What devices are you testing with?

Are you sure your devices are connecting at the RBS and not the RBR?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

I have two in this house (1200sq ft) and one at a house across the street I own and keep for family and friends to stay when they want to come to the beach. These older houses beachside in Daytona Beach are like Faraday cages with true plaster and chicken wire in the walls as well so I'm surprised. They are about 40' apart except for the one across the street. Router in my office and RBS in the Livingroom.

But that being said, I log in and check to make sure I am connected to the RBS before trying. I'm checking wireless on the same piece of equipment every time. It is just faster on the RBS when I disconnect the cable from it. It will jump several hundred, it makes no sense and crazy I know.

      • So you have the RBR and RBS under one house? Or the RBS at the other place?

For that size of home you only need the RBR.
