Upgrade?
Have a RBR 50 with one Sat...and 2 Outdoor rbs50y
Notified Netgear will not support rbr50 anymore
Would upgrade to 770 worth it? is it compatible with outdoor Satellites?
Have a two story 2300sf home about 40 devices...Easy Transition?

For that size of home, if you decide to upgrade, just one RBR and one RBS should work out at 30 feet.
You can use the RBS50Ys as extenders however they will need to be in Extender mode with Extender FW loaded on them prior.
To make an easy transition, something I do when swapping in a new system, setup the incoming system off line from the internet, use same SSID name and Passwords for WiFi network. Once the new system is semi setup, power OFF all RBS including the existing ones. Place the incoming RBR near the ISP modem and existing RBR. Power ON the incoming RBR, reboot the ISP modem/ONT. Disconnected the existing RBR from the ISP modem/ONT and connect up the new RBR. Leave the exisitng RBR ON. Once the new RBR comes to ready and front LED turns OFF, power OFF the old RBR. Your wireless devices should auto migrate to the new RBR if you set up the same SSID name and PW. Now go place the new RBS in place of the out going RBS and power them ON. Give about 10 minutes for them to come to ready.

Does it work for you?
If its meeting all your needs, I'd keep using it. They're a solid set and mature technology.
Just because they're no longer receiving updates doesn't mean they stop working.
And even if something fails, they're a bit older, so there are plenty of used ones on the used market.

You could of course continue to use it anyway.

No.
But it is possible to convert the RBS50Y to run as an extender instead of a mesh.
