What are the capabilities of advanced networking management for the Orbi Mesh WiFi 7 systems?

What options are configurable for those of us with advanced networking skills who are used to managing networks manually?  I get the appeal for the ease of use, but I want to ensure I have full control over the network with advanced settings and customization before sinking that much money into this system.  I currently have 2 Nighthawk gaming routers one acting as an access point.  I have advanced routes configured for specific purposes, QOS, mixed in static IPs for certain devices on the network, etc.  My routers are just outdated and becoming obsolete with the mesh technology and speeds of these things.  I want to change over, but not if I can’t have full control over the router firmware.

  • Orbi systems are mostly automatic and simplified for the average home users. Not a lot of advanced features like advanced QoS configurations which is all automatic on Orbi systems. There is port configurations and some VPN configurations. Access Controls are handled thru the router or if you get a subscription to Smart Parental Controls, then that's handled there for those who want that. IPv6 configurations are supported. FW updates can be automatic or manual. Wireless configuration is limited to only the front haul user accessible section. Backhaul is NOT user accessible or configurable. Never has been.

Orbi 7, 8 and 9 series now have separate IoT network to better help users get those pesky 2.4Ghz only supporting devices connected to a MESH system.

    Guest Network as well.

Review the user manual and spec sheets for information that you maybe looking for before buying.

Thanks for the info.  Sounds like I’d love to have the performance, but not worth the loss of control to me.  I’ll wait.

Features don't seem to change much in Orbi systems so not sure what you'll be waiting for.
        Good Luck.
