The router is attached to a Spectrum Cable Company cable modem. The existing router is a Netgear AC1750

Neither of those are models.
spectrum has a ton of different modem and modem/router combo devices.
and AC1750 is a speed, not a model.
Not trying to be sarcastic but when helping on a forum, specifics are key since we aren't there to see what you're doing or have.

Your first message said that you tried to set up the new router with the Nighthawk app. That's supposed to be easy, but it doesn't give you as much control as you'd get with a manual installation.
