you're trying to mix technologies.
The rax80 isn't a mesh router. Devices won't roam like a mesh network using a non-mesh router.
Even the mesh extenders only operate in mesh mode while running in extender mode. They do work in access point mode but not with the single ssid function.
You're basically trying to get an orbi setup without using orbi.
Devices won't roam properly like that. They'll be sticky in that they'll tend to stay connected to the device they originally connected to.

I had a feeling what I wanted to do was not possible. I really want an ethernet backhaul for better performance. I have. read a lot that the EAX80 and EAX 20 are wirelss backhaul only and the speed drops significantly with them.
Do I ahve any options other than going ORBI instead?
I really though there could be at least one option for ethernet backhaul.

Not that I know of currently for consumer gear when just adding 1 and wanting it hardwired.

Thanks for all the feeedback.
I do see my RAX80 has a AP mode to it.
So maybe I get a Netgear Nighthawk and do an AP mode to a new one.
maybe a cheaper one on facebook marketpace. Some one getting rid of one.
This is a good way to learn this stuff.
