Configuration

I have just purchased a RAX50-100EUS and downloaded the V1.0.15.128_2.089 firmware.

the first problem I found is if I change the router name in device name area of set up it is not carried to internet setup page, but does show up if I press edit but reverses to the original name after pressing apply button.

The second issue I found is in the Lan setup page where you should be able to enter a device MAC number and device name and allocate to an IP address, out of the ten devices I added instead of the name I added only two of the actual names were saved the other eight devices in the list show the device IP address in the name place. I can not figure out how this is happening I reverted the firmware back to an older version V1.0.12.120 but there is no change, my DHCP address's  range is 90.90.90.2 to 90.90.90.11.

I have had a NETGEAR  Nighthawk Ac1900 D7000 router serial number 4T816ABG004F7 for years and always used allocated IP address for a security reason since I purchased it with no issues, as I purchased the new router from Amazon i have a short while to return it with no problem, so must solve this very quickly.

regards Alan

  • Does this problem happen if you use the routers default 192.168.x IP address pool string?

90.x IP address public subnet pool string would not be valid and not recommended for use on the private LAN side subnet. 10.x, 172.x, or 192.x subnets are spec for home class router private LAN environments.

      Hi thanks for quick reply.

I had changed and applied the new 90.90.90.1 IP address. I then had to log back in to the router.

Then  I tried to add other devices into the list.

The PC i was using to edit the configuration was automatically added into the top of the list.

When I opened  the list and the PC showed with the correct  IPADDRESS it correct name in Capital letters (as per in the PC SYSTEM)  plus the correct MAC address.

But when I tried to add another device with IP address Name in either upper case or lower case plus the MAC number once added and applied applied, the device was added to the list but instead of Name it had repeated the IP address in the name field.  just once I added a device using upper case name it was added correctly in the list so I changed all the names I wanted to upper case but no other device was added correctly. I did not note the version of firmware in the RAX50 when it arrived but after the first attempt I download and installed V1.0.12_2.0.89 and it made no difference so I download and installed V1.0.15.128_2.0.89.

I am not convinced but when I started setting up the device with the delivered firmware I think the software also displaced its on MAC number incorrectly with just the error in the last two characters AD instead of AC both the new versions listed above show the correct MAC numbers in set up. Plus I changed the device name in LAN area applied and when I looked in the Wan are the device name had not changed but when I used the edit button the name I had entered in the LAN area applied but never showed up when replied. I purchased this so it could all be up and running in the house as our NETGEAR D7000 is becoming after many years a bit intermittent and I wanted the family to be happy while i was working away. So I have had to return this before going away as it appears the old D7000 could be more reliable than the RAX50. I am using Windows 10 with all available updates and the latest version of EDGE 123.0.2420.81  Regards Alan

      Thanks for a quick reply.

I did not try with the default IP address's as I have been using the 90.90.90.1 with the Netgear D7000 for years and wanted to keep things as they were, ( as I am going away and wanted to leave the house network as is but with a new router as the D7000 after so many years is getting slightly intermitent.)

I changed the IP address to 90.90.90.1 applied it then relogged into the router again before trying to set my the device number allocation.

When I went to add the first device the router had already added the PC I was using to edit the configuration it was added fully correctly with IP address PC Name In UPPER case letters and the correct MAC address.

when I tied to add a second device using again upper case letters when it was applied the item appeared in the list but instead of the device name it had repeated the IP address but the MAC number was correct. after I tried to add some more devices out of the 10 devices I added only one had the correct  Name in the Name box the rest had the IP address repeated in that name field.

I did not notice which firmware version was loaded in the router when delivered, but I then down load V1.0.12.120_2.0.83 but that made no difference. so i downloaded and installed V1.0.15.128_2.0.89 and that also made no difference.

With the firmware installed when delivered, I Did notice the that configuration showed the wrong MAC number for the router as the last pair of letters was AD and not AC as per the box it arrived in. In all three versions when I changed the device name in the LAN part and then checked again in the WAN part the name had not changed but when I pressed edit the device name I had changed to was present but could not be saved. Thanks again Alan

I'd be sure there is no special characters is the device naming. Try removing underscores (_) from between names. Try using a dash if needed (-).

        Try a different browser?

You'll need to try the default 192.168 IP address subnet as well. The one you had been using may not work on newer generation routers.
