Different wifi speed on Nighthawk app and Browser

Hi everyone,

I recently bought Netgear RAX20 AX1800 router,

On my Nighhawk app speed test I apparently recieve about 900mbps.

But when I check my speed on speetest webstie using google chrome It show only 50-70mbps.

What could be the reason?

Rgds,
Daniel

  • Because when its ran off the app, it hosts the test off the router.

When its ran off your chromebook/phone it hosts the test on that device. meaning its the speed of its wireless connection. Maybe its on 2.4ghz (which is slower), is to far from the router, has interference, or even the chromebook has a slow wireless card.

Eitherway it comes down to where the testing is actually taking place.

    nighthawk app: on router

speedtest website: on the device testing on.

So how i nacexplain this massive drop in speed.

Even on Lan connection I recevie only 240 mbps,

On 5 ghz I recieve around 120 mbps.

Is it just a bad router, should I replace it?

what device are you testing on via lan?

What website are you testing the speed on?

        What firmware are you on?

What modem is it connected to?

do you have access control, parental controls, qos, and traffic monitoring all disabled?

Actual details help. You first asked why you see a speed different and then gave minimal info afterwards. We need details about what your setup is, how your testing, what settings you're using, etc.
