I'm not blaming the router. I'm posting this in a forum that I feel is more technically savvy, and may have experienced similar issues.
What I know now is that a WiFi connection from the TV to the NG router does not present the buffering issue, but an ethernet one does. I'll follow up on an LG forum, but can anyone think of a reason why WiFi works, but ethernet does not?

One possibility that comes to mind is that the settings on the TV's LAN configuration need changing.
LAN should be easier to configure than wifi, but the people who design smart TVs are a bit like the people who create IoT stuff, a law unto themselves.

I checked out the network config on the TV for WiFi and ethernet. They are identical except for the IP address and the MAC address.
