Do router have automatic updates on by default
I’m pretty sure we have this router and I do not control it. I am wondering if by default out of the box it has automatic updates on? As I know they are important

I’m pretty sure it’s a raxe500 router my father bought it and isn’t very tech savvy and won’t let me access it. I just want to know it automatically updates straight out from the box

Yes. However if NG doesn't post FW for the Automatic Update services, then manual FW will need to be handled. NG doesn't post new FW to the AU services sometimes.
- Routerman1249Oct 09, 2023AspirantWhat does that mean?
Also just in case I didn’t say correctly when I say automatic updates I mean it updates by itself and not needed to be done manually- FURRYe38Oct 09, 2023Guru - Experienced User
Some FW updates may not get posted to the AU services thus the router won't see them.
Yes, Automatic is the router would update itself, if there was something available on the AU servers for the router to see and then would update itself if the router has the automatic update enabled. If not, then this would need to be enabled, or a manual FW update would need to take place.
- Routerman1249Oct 09, 2023AspirantYes but automatic updates is on by default right out of the box?
- Routerman1249Oct 09, 2023AspirantAh I see what you mean. But say you rely on automatic updates would you still be safe and get the updated often enough that help security?
