Factory reset problems
I have the firmware that came with it, not sure what that is, I cannot seem to connect to it because I forgot my password for admin and also, my router is being obnoxious and acting like my recovery questions are being answered wrong.
Which I find puzzling because I remember them being set up a certain way.
Basically, I cannot remember both recovery answers and the admin password. All that works is the wifi connection password to connect to use it for internet stuff.
Also, I keep trying to reset the router but it keeps refusing to reset the password. Its rather obnoxious and it is pissing me off as one might guess. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get it to reset properly?
Actually, good news, I tried to do it while the thing was plugged in, but with something much sharper... and this time it reset.
I have my nighthawk under my control again... thank God...
🙂 So this I guess is solved

Did you change the admin password? The default is password.
Did you set up password recovery with your own choice of password questions and answers?
If you are talking about access to the browser's graphical user interface (GUI), the router's controls, these are on the label for your device, along with the default wifi login details. The username is fixed at admin. The default password is password.
If you are trying to use the "password recovery" option, there is a bug in Netgear's implementation of password recovery on some devices. You can get locked into a closed loop.
If password recovery is enabled, but you have not set the answers to the questions, it keeps sending you back to the beginning of the process. If you haven't already given the thing your personal answers, they are not in its memory and it has no way of knowing if they are correct.
If the standard factory password (password) does not work, then you will have to factory reset the thing to get back to that. Then either disable password recovery (check the manual for your device) or provide some answers to those questions. How do I perform a factory reset on my NETGEAR router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support

What tells you that the router is "refusing to reset the password"? Any messages?
If you reset the router (see above) the password is the one on the label.
If that isn't working, we need to know more about your network. For example, what modem/gateway/optical network termination (ONT) connects you to the Internet?
How are you trying to get into the router's controls? With an app or a web browser and the graphical user interface (GUI)?

Alas, I did change the default password and I hadn't known of that bug that loops it.
I tried GUI via web browser yes.
And I don't know if it would work to try the app, because password is lost.
I tried to use that factory reset method. It annoys me to no end that it won't stop being a bullying piece of crap and let me reset it by that method.

You'll have to explain what you did and what happens.
Most people happily get by with the usual instructions. If you have problems, we can't help if all you can do is to complain about a "bullying piece of crap". That provides minimal diagnostic detail.
You tried logging into the router after you reset it. What happened?

You could start by addressing the questions you were asked rather than simply repeating you grievances.
