Firmware Update causes Internet to go out

After I did a firmware update my router sporadically drops the internet.  Intersting alos that when I can get into the config page I'm prompted to use the nighthawk app.  Did this firmware app include something to force the use of the app?

    Did you have issues prior to the update?

    any time you have issues after a firmware upgrade, a good first step is to factory reset and manually re-install the router (not from backup).
