Firmware update problem
When I try to access the router login page, it keeps wanting to reset my password. Is that necessary?

Be sure to clear out all browser caches and any saved password profiles for the router log in.
Try a different browser, MS Edge, Firefox or Opera.
Try a factory reset and setup from scratch:

What model router is this?

How are you going about this?
What message do you actually get?
Is this with a web browser and the graphical user interface (GUI)?
Did you ever change the login password? By default is is password. In recent firmware, Netgear likes to urge people to change that.
In decades of using these things, I have never found it necessary to faff around with browsers, caches and passwords.
Is this what you ate doing?

What router do you have?
Has it been a while since you logged in?
I've seen it when Netgear changed the password requirements and users had old passwords.
I ran into that as well but it was quite a while ago.
Doesn't that depend on the firmware?
Could happen if there was an automated update that went by unnoticed.
