How to add RAX40 to CM1150V

Here is my situation; I'm starting up a home based business and have a CM1150V for about a year now.

Seems to work fine. I have Comcast gig speed (956mbps) and 2 phone VoIP lines.

Now I want to add a WiFi router to my network [which is just one wired PC for now]

So I purchased a RAX40 and tried to set it up.

After three hours of trying I gave up and went here.

I did this several times;

Shut down modem >unplugged ethernet cable to PC >unplugged power cord,

plugged in ethernet cable from router (WAN) to ethernet 1 on modem,

plugged power back in to modem >waited for lights to come on steady,

plugged power to router >waited for lights to stabilize

Downloaded Nighthawk app to cell and tried to set up. No Go!

It gets to the point where it wants to change MAC address and static IP etc...

I then tried the wired method, plugged in ethernet cable to router >green light on >aggreement >MAC > IP >etc......

Any idea guys?

  • Make sure nothing else is plugged into the cm1150v's ethernet ports.

Unless you're ISP allows mulitiple public ip addresses (most don't) or have a router that has wan aggregation, only 1 ethernet port on the CM1150v can be used. You can use the phone lines but not the other ethernet ports.

    so try it this way.

Factory reset the RAX40. When its fully reset, power both it and the cm1150v down.

power up the cm1150v. give it a few minutes to fully boot.

connect port 1 of cm1150v to wan port on RAX.

    power up the rax.

    Give it a few minutes.

Then try the setup on the RAX.
