I need a step by step guide to configure this AX1800 WiFi 6 Router
My old netgear router is on its last legs, so I've purchased an AX1800 WiFi 6 Router to replace it... It will only be used in Wired (Ethernet cable) mode. Unfortunately I cannot configure it as it a...

Unfortunately not with a Netgear product, which is quite sad as my last two Modem Routers were Netgear.
I took the advice from a friend and am using another product.

Obviously I do have a Modem Router otherwise this communication would not be possible, the now dead one was a Netgear DGN2200 v4 and I've fallen back on a very old one from my bit n' bobs store cupboard and that's a Netgear DG834 v4.
While it is very old and drops the connection occasionally it does at least enable me to internet connect until I find a suitable replacement for the dead one. (LAN worked okay but the Internet was totally dead.)
So I'm now looking and thinking... It's a shame so many of the modern connection devices are so damn ugly, particularly when compared to the previous versions I had.

"DSL" and "Ethernet" are spelled differently for a reason. Did you
not see the difference in the connectors? Or did you think that two
wires and eight wires were equivalent?

That message isn't, but any Netgear Rxxxx or RAXxxx model is a
router, not a DSL modem+router.

Have you looked into the possibility of configuring one of your old
DSL modem+routers as a DSL modem (only), and using it with your new
(modemless) router?
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at least). Read?
A couple of points worth noting...
1) I'm not an IT type person, just a bog standard computer user so many of the terms of reference about networking are arcane to me... But I just about manage to keep my gear going. :-)
2) Answering your question about using one of the old Netgear Modem routers as a modem for this new modemless router...
As noted in a previous posting, the most recent one is dead to the internet, and the really old one I'm using as a temporary measure is not only slow, but drops out quite often, so I don't think in this instance your suggestion would work.
The RAX20 device I purchased the other day is being returned to the shop for a refund and I'm still looking into a replacement Modem router.

If you're on dsl, call your ISP to find out what is compatible with your service.
It doesn't seem like netgear has been making much for DSL modem/router combo devices anymore.

I doubt that you'll find much new stuff from Netgear in the DSL

section is not working, or that its router section is not working?]It means, I've tested it. The LAN part still worked, so I had communication within the house with all the other networked devices, but it would not connect with the external internet in any way shape or form.

Well I guess the evidence satisfied me.
1) The Modem part would not connect to the outside world.
2) I've tested the network cable.
3) I dug out from my spares/junk cupboard the really old one that does work, but drops out, connected that to the network cable and computer and both LAN and external internet are available.
Don't get me wrong, I think your suggestion was a creditable one, but think I had enough evidence that in this case it wouldn't work.
