I probably should have gotten a 7E device but really, it's ...

Wifi is moving to single SSID solutions (names). The reason for this is a lot of the advancements are in band steering, roaming, and concurrent usage. This allows more devices to work seemlessly and to be able to roam without issues. While its a PITA to get your devices all connected to 1 band, I'd highly recommend it. Because its only going to get work as future wifi versions stick to the single ssid solution. Its easier to do it now before you've added even more devices.
So what I'd recommend.
Take the time to setup smart connect and use wpa2/wpa3 mixed mode. That'll allow the older devices to connect.
And then take the time to get your few devices that struggle to connect.

Agree, but smart connect might switch a device to the slower 2.4 Ghz band when the 5 Ghz signal isn't that weak. This happens more aggressively with smart connect enabled. Also I like having control over a separate 2.4 Ghz SSID since only the IoT devices would get connected to this SSID. I wish that NG has a smart connect for just the 5 and 6 Ghz bands, but I still named them with the same SSID's, but the switching isn't that aggressive as with smart connect on.
