MK62 - can I share a USB drive through a FIOS router? (Verizon Fios Mi424wr REV I )
MK62 - Nighthawk Mesh WiFi 6
Windows PC
I am connecting via FIOS through Verizon Fios Mi424wr REV I router. I want to setup a shared backup (or network) drive. Since the MK62 has no USB port, can I use the USB port on the FIOS router? If yes, it doesn't seem to discover the USB drive device.

Not all verizon (especially the first gen actiontec routers), have USB storage enabled, but if your's supports it, then make sure that you are not on a double NAT as it will cause the issue you are facing.
For your Netgear router, make sure it is in AP mode and not Router mode, as that will cause a double NAT.
A PC connected to the nighthawk, should have an IP address in the same range as a PC connected directly to the actiontec router.

Is the MK62 configured as a wireless access point? That might make it
easier to do some things, including access shared storage (or other
devices) which are connected to the MI424WR. But your big problem would
seem not to be whether you could connect to such storage from the MK62
LAN, but whether the MI424WR can do its half of the job.> [...] Since the MK62 has no USB port, can I use the USB port on the

The first User Manual which I found for an "Actiontec MI424WR rev. I"
was not encouraging, but it was ten years old, and did offer some small
hope for the future:Page 15:
USB Ports
The USB ports provide up to 500 mA at 5 VDC for attached devices
(to charge a cell phone, for example). In the future, with a
firmware release upgrade, the USB host functionality will be
available for devices such as external storage and cameras.Whether such a "firmware release upgrade" ever became available might
be a good question to pose to Verizon or Actiontec.
The ability to connect a USB storage device to a router is tempting,
but, at least in the case of Netgear routers, often disappoints. A Web
or forum search for, say, "ReadySHARE" might find any number of
complaints. (Of course, even "bad" might beat "none", if that's all the
"MI424WR rev. I" can provide. But, as you say, the MK62 also offers
"none".)If the cost is not too great, I'd suggest considering some real NAS
box. A purpose-built NAS tends to have more reliable software than the
dancing-bear (ReadySHARE) stuff which Netgear offers on its routers. What, if anything, your MI424WR can do, I'll leave for you to explore.
