My Nighthawk AX8 included a Black Foam Wedge - What is it’s Purpose?

I see from another post that my Nighthawk RAX8 is supposed to have a fan inside the mesh grill. There is no fan in my unit. Is the black foam wedge supposed to go under the unit to cool it or what?
