Netgear AX8 RAX70 Tri-Band AX6600 40 device Router WAN vs LAN speed
On the QoS page the speed test returns 279mbps. Any Gig ethernet connected device inside the network 98mbps. What is the bottleneck? Is the router only capable of 100mbps? Why is it marketed as a gig...

what does it show on your wan port statistics page?
How do I display Internet port statistics on my Nighthawk router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
Have you tested a device using a short 6ft cable? Make sure its a cat 5e (good quality) or cat 6 cable

Interesting the stats page does show the internal ports at 100mbps.
I moved a laptop to it and did get 1000 on a 14ft Cat5e.
What limitation is there for a 25 or 50 foot run? Cat6 is not enough? I ask a little sarcastically as the Cat6 cable upgrade on my x6 router last year was connecting at 1000. I replaced the long ones with Cat6 when I had renovations done during covid. Cat6 and white that matches/blends in better than the blue or green left over on a job. The WAN speed was much faster then [usually between 940-990] before they jacked up the price. I was impressed as the devices tested as well as the phones.
The Cat6 50' is less than a year old and [connected direct not patched via a wall run or anything] switch to switch.
I purchased this router on July 26 after the Nighthawk x6 I have had for years suddenly reset and would not connect to the ISP/WAN port.
Is there a setting for the LAN ports on the AX8 I am missing? Turn off the auto negotiation? Something like that?

There's nothing to change on it. I have noticed that sketchier cables or ends do cause it drop drop from gigabit to 10/100mbps.
And some devices tolerate it better than others. You can try replacing the ends on your cables in case its just a sketchy end.
But if its connecting at gigabit when ran with a short cable, it tends to point at the longer cables having some type of issue.

Like I said the longer cables are new and were working on the older Netgear device. The ends are factory crimped and have been treated very gently and installed once.
Been 22 years since I did my Novell-CNE cert. Which is better a solid wire or stranded for twisted pair? As for the replacement is it worth Cat6e or even Cat8 that I am now seeing here and there? The decrease speed is noticeable and now verified I would like to do something about it.

Cool. A little more time now after work and I sorted out the cables. I ran an extra. That one connects at a gig.
Not as neat as it was. But it works. Thanks for your patience.

Glad to see a different cable fixed it. Sad that it screws up the neatness.
I've been seeing it a lot more where these newer devices are a little more sensitive to the ethernet cables used on whether they connect at 10/100mbps or gigabit.
eitherway, glad you got it figured out!
Might mark it solved so others aren't still trying to fix it 🙂
