Netgear nighthawk router R6700AX streaming issues
I have a Netgear nighthawk R6700AX. Purchased within the last 2 years. Its actually in basement at one end of ~2000 sqft house. Trying not to move it. Good inbound speed of 400mb+ from Spectrum ...
A couple things.
1. 2.4ghz struggles with streaming because its sensitive to interference and isn't a very fast network
2. the EX2700 is a base model n300 device. Its not suitable to streaming tv. extenders by their very nature (single/dual bands) cut throughput 50% of what their receive and with the ex2700 already pretty slow, its a poor choice
3. Your home is only 2000sqft, if it made of wood/sheetrock and you don't have the router stuck in a utility room (the metal blocks wifi), you can centrally locate it and should be able to cover the whole home
4. if not, I'd look at something like the EAX15/20. Put the primary router 1/3 in the way of the home and the eax in the other 1/3. (like this: wall |------router----------EAX--------| wall
the router and extender both broadcast omnidirection (basically in a globe) so you don't want them right next to a wall.

Where is the EX2700? Try moving it neare4r to the router. Somewhere half way between the router and the farthest TV would be good.
You have made life harder with the router in the basement, probably the worst place possible.
One option for spreading the Internet around the place is Powerline Ethernet. This turns the main circuit into a network connection. If your mains circuit is not too electrically noisy, and you have a reasonable Internet speed, $00 Mbps should be fast enough for a TV, especially if you have one that can plug into the Ethernet on the powerline plug. TVs don't need a seriously fast connection. Many can't do more than 100 Mbps.
Son tells me to replace with an Orbi Mesh, but retiring thus trying to control investment.
Advice? Can I add a MESH expander or not. Best way to approach other than move router to middle of house?
You can't add a MESH extender. Orbi would mean a new router with it.
Maybe your son has an old one he could pass on. Bit too late for father's day.
Orbi mesh might work, but hard to see how it would be better than your router plus extender.
