Nighthawk AC2300 Router

I bought the Nighthawk AC2300 router - it doesn't have a "phone" slot and was told, by Best Buy Geek Squad, that I could plug my landline phone into one of the ethernet ports. I am not getting a dial tone. Is there something I'm suppose to do? Do I need another part? We live pretty remote and need a landline. Thanks in advance.

    Bestbuy didn't give you proper info. The R7000P is not a dsl modem/router. Its a router only. You can't hardwire your phone into it and have it function. 

    I take it you're using dsl?
