Nighthawk AX5 AX 4200 Drops internet connection and nighthawk app does not work.

I had to factory reset my router (brand new) because it kept dropping internet all of the time. I removed the device from the nighthawk application and now am trying to set it back up. During set up of the night hawk app I can get to the step of connecting to the Wi-Fi network and copying and pasting, but it will not go any further in the app. I can not access the main menu of the night hawk application at all now. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application. I have been on phone support with netgrear for an hour and  a half. resetting, powering on and off, removing cables and putting them back extc. Should I take it back and get a new one? If so when I go to set up the night hawk application am i going to have the same problem and not be able to get past the wifi connection set up part? Please help I am so frustrated with this.

  • Which device is that AX5 AX 4200. That isn't a Netgear model number. RAX42? RAX43?

What firmware version do you have on the device?

A number is more useful than "the latest". There may be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.

If there is one it might also help if you told people the make and model number of the modem/gateway/ONT that sits between this router and the Internet. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?

I ask because a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

It sounds like you are trying set up the router with the Nighthawk app on a mobile device. Netgear likes to force this on people, but it can be a lot easier to do it with a wired connection and web browser and the graphical user interface (GUI).

Manuals are always a good place to start.

    Visit the support pages:

    Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

Look for the model number on the label on the device.

Check for instructions on manual setup.
