Nighthawk RAX48 doesn't recognize USB hard drive

I have checked the link for compatible USB drives, but there's nothing there for the RAX48.  I have a LaCie rugged mini hard drive, 1TB.  The light on the drive is on, and it works when I plug it into a USB port on the computer. When it's plugged into the router, it doesn't show up on the device manager or in Windows Explorer.  Computer is running Windows 10.  The hard drive has been formatted for NTFS.  I've tried adding Windows credentials for \\readyshare and also for 192.168.1.1, which appeared on the forum as a default IP address. Any ideas?
