I was using an ASUS router as a repeater which was wired to the RAX70. Apparently the Asus was given an IP address outside of the usual numbering scheme and that resulted in the two laptops being unable to connect to the internet.
Tech support found this problem and as soon as I disconnected the ASUS router everything was able to connect.
They suggested using the ASUS connected to Wi-Fi as an Access Point.

Good suggestion. It is a standard strategy, recommended here often..
If you need the repeater, and can wire it to the RAX70, then the trick is to put the Asus in to access point (AP) mode. (Most routers have that as an option.) That puts the RAX in charge of the network. It won't thrown any wonky IP addresses into play.
