The router is a netgear nighthawk axe 7800 triband wifi 6e. The modem is a spectrum et2251. I have a tp-link ac1750 that reconnects on its own after a power loss. We upgraded to this expense nighthawk and it’s been a pain.

Try looking at the label on the bottom.

Not connected at the same time as the anonymous Nighthawk I hope.

- SweetElla20Sep 01, 2024AspirantNo, not at the same time. We upgraded from the tp-link to the nighthawk. I have attached the info on the bottom. I’m not sure what FW stands for. The cord is a cat 5e.
It won’t let me attach my photo but its model number is raxe300.- michaelkenwardSep 01, 2024Guru - Experienced User

It is important to keep it up to date, mostly for security, but it rarely solves basic issues.
Devices rarely reach the end user with the latest version. Netgear tries to automate the update process, but that is less than perfect
You can check the firmware in several ways. The most reliable is to login with a web browser and the graphical user interface (GUI):

Then look at the bit at the top for the current firmware.
This is one way to check and update your firmware.

Here's the newest FW for your router:
RAXE300 Firmware Version 1.0.8.64 - NETGEAR Support
It came out in March 2023. That page explains what to do with the new version.
The idea that you should buy a UPS – there's another bit of jargon for you it means UPS – is perverse, unless you live in a place where the power goes out often. Likewise, get better cables is equally misleading. It keeps getting repeated, but I have never seen any evidence that it has rescued a user from a problem like yours.
Good luck. You may need it.
