A few quick and easy things to try.
The simplest is to restart the whole network, not just the router.
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
- Turn off and unplug modem.
- Turn off router and computers.
- Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on computers and rest of network.
If problems persist, then a rest of the router can help.
How do I perform a factory reset on my NETGEAR router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
The factory reset is more a "witchcraft" move than a technically informed solution, but it does seem to fix problems, especially on the wifi front. It is also the first thing that Netgear support will recommend.
You do have to reconfigure the router again. You can save a bit of hassle by saving the settings before you do the reset.
But be warned that restoring the settings may revive whatever caused problems in the first place.

The modem is a netgear cm2050v. I no longer have voice in use.
The ssid IS visible
When I try to connect, i get connection failed.
Same thing happens with guest ssid
While this is going on, my desktop, (physically cabled to the router), cannot connect to the router address, but I can see the internet from the desktop. Once I restart the router, everything works again. It is working well right now, but i don't have any idea how long that will last. Thank you for your help. Since i started this discussion, i have had no further problems. I do not understand why. However, a complete network reset is on my radar and will be done the next time i see this happening.
Have a great day!

Stuff happens.
If you haven't done so already, I'd save the current configuration.
