What is that cable modem? Make and model?
- tk3000Mar 04, 2024AspirantThe cable modem is a surfboard, the following: “ARRIS SURFboard SB6183-RB DOCSIS 3.0 16x4 Gigabit Cable Modem, 1 Gbps Port, 400 Mbps Max Internet Speed”. In the past, the speed limits for that ISP account was 50Mbs, but since the beginning of this year it was upgraded to 200Mbs. Also, the nodes connected to the router have a connection that often is sub-par, slow, sometimes with lots of latency. In some occasion, pinging a public IP address from ones of the nodes in my LAN results in 10% loss. For example, "ping netzero.com -n 25" or "ping google.com -n 25" would from time to time result in a 10% or 5% loss, other times it would result in 0% loss. Another issue is that after doing some speed tests between two nodes within my LAN (using iperf3), I noted that the speed seems be capped at 48Mbs -- I would expect it to much faster than that. That router seems to be having a myriad of issues, which makes me think that it simply is too dysfunctional and thus needs to be replaced.
