RAX10 - Hangs / Cannot view "Connected Devices" - Hangs / cannot update firmware

Router ISSUES #1 & #2 SOLVED by using Edge instead of Firefox w/ its plugins.  Still concerned about hacking but that's a question for the Linux fora I guess.

------

Original message:

RAX10 router.  Purchased from NewEgg late Dec '24.  Installed latest firmware (RAX10-V1.0.18.164) on installation 2-1/2 months ago.  Had some difficulty then, could not upload firmware from ethernet connected computer, had to connect to web.  Didn't & don't have the phone app, don't want a phone app for this if I can avoid it.

Problem 1.  Does not show "Connected Devices", gives spinning circles.

Problem 2.  Tried reinstalling firmware (same rev as already installed), gives spinning circle whether from Web or from local machine.

Another weird thing - always rejects first login, then allows login on 2nd attempt.

Tried resetting with the button on the back.  Still allowed admin login with old password.  Tried resetting from web browser.  This worked, admin password was 'password', yet wifi password was still as I set it earlier.  Still cannot see connected devices or reinstall firmware.

Concerned may have been hacked.  Been critical of Chinese & Trump entities, had computer hang when trying to restart the other day.  Had to hold power button, restart hung again, had to hold power button, then finally the Grub selector screen came up.  Just learned of newly discovered bugs in Grub (Linux dual boot loader) which I am running.

Should I be concerned that this system has been hacked?  BitDefender scan finds nothing but no proof against a bootkit or rootkit.  Not sure how it would've happened except the odd behavior trying to reboot.  I think the Grub vulnerability report says some local action is required but perhaps it was a web browser hack?  Do I just need to chuck all this stuff & go with all-new hardware?

  • I'm a bit lost as to what you are seeking help with.

We don't need to know about things that are solved, just current problems.

    Is this it?

Do you have any evidence to support that notion?

There are very few, if any, reports here of hacked networks that are down to a vulnerable router.

Check the flow of traffic around here. If anything serious has cropped up you would read at it here.

    Then there is this:

Your account of earlier problems could point to possible issues, but you seem to be satisfied that all is now well on that front. And you don't provide enough useful detail to say much more.

Yes, concern is primaily with the Linux-associated "Grub" dual-boot bootloader.  New vulnerabilities just disclosed & I had unusual trouble rebooting recently.  I guess the router has been ruled out as the initial cause of the worry.  Still a related worry - how to verify the router firmware has not been altered?  (e.g., how to query it for a checksum or something).

Thanks for your reply.  I won't continue unless there are comments/knowledge about the above.
