Hello, I can't get access to my Nighthawk anymore. The Web config is not accessable and I get a connection-refused by the browser. This is over the local LAN. I have tried powercycling but that didn...

Thanks for that. I was indeed operating under option 2. But a couple a weeks ago the first router (Genexis) hung up and I had to factory reset the device, I forgot to add the Nighthawk to the DMZ. Now it seems the Web config does not come back without factory reset even when I completely isolate the Nighthawk. Thanks for the support

After factory resetting the Rax120 I still can't access the Web UI. What to do? Have factory reset the device with 7 sec reset method and 30-30-30. It has its default settings alright. Connecting to Netgear12 on the wifi.
Both tried Nighthawk App, Router not found.
Also on cable via 192.168.1.1 no connection.
What else can I do?

Is the RAX connected to your modem/gateway?
It might be changing its default ip address if its going through setup connected.
Try factory resetting it with it disconnected from the gateway. After the reset, connect pc to it (still disconnected from the gateway) and try to go through setup.

I have completely isolated the netgear router and factory reset it again. Then I connect only Windows PC which gets an 192.168.1.2 ip address. I can ping the router 192.168.1.1. But browser to http(s)://192.168.1.1 gives no connection. I tried the same with a linux pc, just in case this is somehow infected by virus/proxy setting or what not, but also get no connection. Is there a way to flash the firmware using USB?

Not via usb.
You can try recoving it with tftp or nmrpflash.
are you on windows? if so, follow this guide
https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
just make sure you enable tftp
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10
and here's a video walk through using a tftp client. Use the built in one for windows 10 though. the video is more of an example of how its done.

and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash
