RAX120 prime video and random website access issue

My internet service is provided by Verizon Fios via an Ethernet cable and an Actiontec MI424WR router. i tried using RAX120 in two methods.

First method, I connected RAX120 to the actiontec. I disconnected the actiontec wireless.

Second method, I released DHCP from actiontec, powered off then connected the RAX120 directly to Verizon Ethernet cable.

in both approaches there are the same two problems. First problem is amazon prime does not work on appletv or iPad, whether I use hardwire or wireless. Second problem, if I type in my iPhone safari browser a name eg a university name, or some website name eg cnn.com or any well known website. Some websites show a prompt to enter a username and password. The only way I get to the website is by indirectly going through google in the iPhone safari browser. Once I am in google website I can then search for cnn or whatever website I have problems with and then I can access it.

firmware is up to date v1.0.1.122

i also tried switching off the Armor security but problem still remains.

what do I do to fix this?

thanks

Rajesh

  •  Netgear contacted me and gave me instructions to set a static DNS address. That solved both problems. In doing so it created a new problem.

Both my wife and my work laptops (Lenovo) no longer connect automatically to the router. Everytime we reboot, we have to manually click on the router icon to connect. I spent 1 hour with my employer IT dept, they installed the latest wireless driver which was part of the Lenovo system update so everything was updated. The problem still remains. Interestingly my personal hp laptop & dell desktop do not have this problem.

Has anyone else experienced this problem ?

If this problem is not solved, I will have to return the router and stay with Verizon FIOS router.

      Hi rajeshprasad1,

I would suggest contacting support again and informing them of the new issue that was surfaced to be investigated further.

        Hello Christian,

Thank you for reply. I did call Netgear and spoke to 1 person who took down the description of the problem despite my uploads to this forum. She said she could not see my message uploads. She then offered to put me in touch with someone with technical knowledge but the wait would be 20 minutes. Unfortunately, during working hours, it is difficult for me to be on hold on the phone for such a length of time. I declined the offer to wait for 20 minutes. It would have been convenient if someone could call me back but the person told me that was not possible.

Today, I had Verizon technician upgrade my FIOS internet and provided a rental router G3100 (also a WIFI 6 router like RAX120). I verified both Lenovo laptops could connect automatically unlike the RAX120 router. Netgear provided me, by email, the solution to use a static DNS, that solved the access to Amazon prime (from appletv) & access to random websites (any laptop or iphone). However, both our Lenovo laptops did not like this and had to manually connected to the RAX120 everytime it was booted. I did contact my employer IT department and they downloaded the latest drivers but the problem remained.

I have returned the RAX120. I will in the future consider purchasing a router and have not ruled out purchasing a Netgear router.

        Regards

        Rajesh
