RAX120 Router Random Disconnects
Hey everyone, I know that I'm not the only one with problems on the Nighthawk WiFi 6 devices, but thought I'd post my most recent headache. My hardware consists of a Motorola MB8600 DOCS 3.1 modem w/...

Just an update. After re-applying my configuration this morning the network has been stable since. However, I did disable all device MAC addresses, except for my laptop, via the security ACLs as well. About an hour back I enabled 3x IP cameras, a security NVR, and my alarm system gateway. So far so good. Possibly something on my network is being a bad neighbor after an automagic FW update the night before. I'll find out sooner or later.

The issue is back! The modem ran well all day yesterday, so at about 10pm I decided to allow a few more devices. I allowed an Amazon cloud cam, a thermostat, 5 light bulbs, and 4 smoke detectors. Everything ran until about 1am and the issue resurfuced. Here's the interesting part. If I connect my phone via LTE, I am able to communicate with my alarm system that is physically connected via a CAT5e cable and to the light bulbs that are on the 2.4GHz guest network. However, the thermostat and smoke detectors that are on the non-guest WiFi network are not online. I connected my laptop once again to the non-guest WiFi and I can ping external IP addresses, but I cant resolve hostnames/URLs. The same occurs on my phone or other devices connected to that network WiFi network. I connected my laptop to the guest 2.4GHz network, but I still couldn't resolve anything to the routers DNS. The next time it happens I'll have to connect my laptop via a physical cable to see if I can get DNS resolution, but I'm not optimistic since my streaming TV device didn't work. So here's a few questions.
Why are the light bulbs accessible from outside, inbound to the network when they are on the internal 2.4GHz guest network?
Why is the security system accessible from outside, inbound to the network when it's physically plugged with a CAT5e cable network?
This is getting very tiresome though... Everything functioned wthout an issue for a few months and no changes were made. Then on Sunday morning, it all went to hell in a handbasket.
Christian_R What is Netgear doing for customers? After 90 days you are stuck with no support and a paperwieght cuz of poor FW code.

Rax120_rax80, did you have an opportunity to install the RAX120 beta firmware (see message #3 above) – and, did it improve the situation you are experiencing?

Per the site, the only version in the Security Hotfixes (Beta Firmware) is 1.0.1.118 which is also in the Firmware and Software Downloads section as well. I upgraded to 1.0.1.118 after having the issue occur on 1.0.1.114 and I have been testing with .118 since. Unless there is another beta FW I'm not aware of, I'm running the latest.
Here's another update in the saga. The issue occured again about 9am this morning after I reset the RAX120 a little before 8am. The only things allowed network access were the devices running all day yesterday with no issue (WiFI IP security cams, physically connected security NVR and alarm system gateway, laptop via WiFi) and the WiFI bulbs that were functional this morning. However, I did enable the Amazon Cloud cam to swap it to the guest network for testing when the RAX120 went bonkers. It could be a coincidence, but it could be a problematic device. It's currently blocked via MAC on the router, but I'll test re-enabling that one device later if I have some stability for the entire day.
Anyway, I tested/verified the following when the RAX120 was in it's zombie state.
* Connected laptop directly to the RAX120 via CAT5e, DNS lookups succeeded when choosing external DNS servers (75.75.75.75, 8.8.8.8, etc), pings to IP addresses internally within the NAT and externally on the web succeeded, DNS lookups when choosing the RAX120 as a DNS server failed, pings to external hostsname on the web failed (as expected since DNS on the RAX120 is failing)
* ARP table on my laptop took an extrememly long time to populate, but it did list all the device MACs allowed access on the RAX120.
* Netstat from the laptop wasn't showing any socket connections, which was expected.

Rax120_rax80, note that the “beta firmware” referenced in message #3 is a non-public release in development, distinct from the “Firmware Version 1.0.1.118 - Hot Fix” on the Netgear website. Please communicate with Christian_R (forum moderator) through a private message to request access.

I'm experiencing simlar issues. Where might I get my hands on this beta firmware?

When I got it, it was from Netgear. There was a link for "beta" next to the other current firmware offerings. Since the full, public release of 1.0.1.118, it has disapeeared.
