What's the 1st 3 characters seen on the router serial number?

Not sure if it applies, the serial on the box or sticker. Might not be correct. Is there a way to get this information from the router login page?

Router sticker.
- EpicEnigmaJan 12, 2023Guide
100 is the first 3 if it accounts for much.
- FURRYe38Jan 12, 2023Guru - Experienced User
Thats the first 3 characters of router serial number? Should start with a 6...
- EpicEnigmaJan 12, 2023Guide
6TA is it then, I was looking at the TA numbers, they are very close together.
- FURRYe38Jan 12, 2023Guru - Experienced User
That would be a v1 model then. Not a v2.
- EpicEnigmaJan 12, 2023Guide
Yeah but in the router page it says V2

UI I believe reads on both models but the serial tells the actual model version.
- EpicEnigmaJan 12, 2023Guide
Sticker didn't tell me the default SSID and password either but the router login page did.

You get this router 2nd hand or used online? Might consider returning it.
- EpicEnigmaJan 12, 2023Guide
It was given to me as a gift for Christmas, due to when they bought it for me, the return time has passed. The box looked factory sealed, and the information label on the back of the unit is smooth as butter, no signs of peel and switch. There has to be a way to access the routers serial directly from the unit its self via the routers page or something right?

No.

You might try this for additional information.
Log in to the UI page first, open a new tab on your browser and use http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/hidden_info.htm. Note the underscore between hidden and info. The xxxs are the IP address.
Some of the wording does not make it through translation very well. Series number should read serial number.
- EpicEnigmaJan 12, 2023Guide
This produced an entirely different serial,6JY2.
- EpicEnigmaJan 12, 2023Guide
Both serial numbers are saying they are already registered 😠
- FURRYe38Jan 12, 2023Guru - Experienced User
Can you post a pic of the serial number seen on the router sticker in back and edit out all but first three characters?
- EpicEnigmaJan 12, 2023Guide
Dude, I am so angry right now, I can now see the sticker is miss aligned. I totally got ripped off... I think? So the box was for a V1 but I have a v2... free upgrade? I don't know how to feel right now 😅

Ya looks like someone did something with the router sticker in back. Possible someone had this one and it maybe a v2 and had problems with it and found them a v1 and swapped the sticker in back and put this unit in the v1 box knowing the v1s worked better.
I guess you could try the v2 beta if you want. If anything happens I guess you could put v.40 back on.
Up to you...Just didn't want to give you something thats not meant for v1s. This beta is only for v2s as v2s had the problem. V1s didn't.
- EpicEnigmaJan 12, 2023Guide
So the v1 is more stable? Yeah I need some of that beta man lol my girl is going to murder me if I don't go back to the TP link mesh setup.

I am curious. Does the MAC address of the device match the MAC address on the label?
- EpicEnigmaJan 12, 2023Guide
No, from, what I can see of the label on the Box VS what it says in the IPv4 internet setup mac address via the router page, they are indeed different. Did you think maybe they did some custom firmware?
- EpicEnigmaJan 12, 2023Guide
What upsets me is how do I register this for a warranty because the serial of both the box and the router both say registered. Its sort of an issue because the one hinge on the right side giant panel wifi antenna has come loose somehow. I do not think it will effect its performance but it is an eye sore cosmetically to such a beautiful unit. My secondary thoughts are, whoever registered said serials should catch trouble for frauding the system. If both serials are registered to the same email or person, than that person is point blank caught knowingly being responsible for this mess.

No, not necessarily. Occasionally hardware that is used in beta testing and evaluation programs finds it way back into the secondary market.
- EpicEnigmaJan 12, 2023Guide
I miss the days I beta tested for a couple companies. I need to see if the old sites from 10 years ago still operate. As for an update, I woke up and nothing was disconnected. I would love to see notes on whats changed in the beta firmware, did it sacrifice anything to make it operate?

Good to hear.
Ya I'd like to know what exactly was fixed but probably never find out.
Glad it's working better. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
