RAX200 - AX11000 Can both 5G radios have the same SSID?

My current setup has a 2.4ghz SSID and a different 5ghz SSID.  The RAX200 seems to have one 2.4 and two 5ghz.  If I use band stearing, it only has one SSID.  I don't want to have two AC bands and have to separate traffic on the devices (change half the AC items ssid), yet I don't want to change all my home automation devices ssids to match.  I also purposfully want to select which band (gn or ac) the devices are using.

Can I select one ssid on the 2.4 radio and use the same ssid on BOTH 5g radios?  will the router be able to spread the devices correctly?  The manual is not clear on this.  It will ALLOW me to use the same ssid on both 5g, but I'm not sure it works the way I expect.

This unit works a little differently than my existing device, as it has two 5g radios, but allows only one ssid for both and somehow spreads that traffic and devices.  I'm only upgrading because I now have a few ax capable devices.

Thanks

  • Its kind of an all or nothing if you want to use the bandsteering/smart connect.

You can set the same ssid for the 5ghz channels but you'll have to set it manually and it'll be tough to choose which one you're connecting to.

But it shouldn't be an issue with IoT devices and running the smart connect. I've got multiple IoT devices and haven't had issues running smart connect with any of them.
