RAX200 IPv6 issues

I am seeing a consistent issue with IPv6 on my RAX200. It successfully acquires a DHCP address from Comcast and publishes AutoConfig information for clients on the LAN side of the connection. But after minutes (sometimes hours) it no longer is able properly route IPv6 traffic.

The problem seems to be worse with Android devices.

I have done everything I can to diagnose the issue:

  • Make sure that I am Wi-Fi connected directly to the router (I do have an EAX80 upstairs)
  • Changed settings to see if different combinations of specifying or not specifying a DNS server solves it
  • Switched between DHCPv6 instead of AutoConfig on the LAN side to see if that makes a difference (and learned that Android and DHCPv6 don't work at all)
  • Tested on multiple versions of Android (9, 11, 12, and 13) with multiple devices

All yield the same results - after some period of time IPv6 stops working.

Anyone else having similar issues? Recommendations of other places to look? Tools to try? Routers to switch to (been part of the ongoing RAX200 "beta test" since the router first came out almost 4 years ago and never found the firmware stable)?

  • This is usually not a router problem but a Comcast one. The latter has a really cr@ppy IPv6 implementation. There are a lot of people on the SNB Forums that also have similar issues

A workaround is to set the IPv6 to Passthrough. Your Android devices won't get an IPv6 address (as they don't support DHCPv6) but your other devices will
  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

      Modem - Netgear CM1150V V4.12.04

Did try some other cables, no change in behavior.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch.

Was this happening on prior version of FW?
