What is that modem? Make and model?
When rebooting things you have to do it in the right order.
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
- Turn off and unplug modem.
- Turn off router and computers.
- Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on computers and rest of network.
When I was poking around on 192.168 I stumbled on a firmware update button, it claimed firmware was up to date but I'm not sure how it would know since to date it's not connected to the internet
You do not need an Internet connection to update the firmware. Download it with something else and then manually update the firmware with the download.
How do I manually upgrade firmware to my NETGEAR router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
I plugged my old netgear dualband N600 and internet worked just fine.
What is that router. (N600 is a wifi speed, not a model number.)
When you replace a router, you may have to reset the modem. Then add the router and take it through its setup process.
tried the nighthawk app, tried the setup wizard on 192.168.1.1
Try to avoid the Nighthawk app. A manual setup with a wired connection to the router is more reliable and gives you more control over the process.
