You’re right. That’s the speed I’m getting in the Netgear app. That’s disingenuous. Who cares what speed that is. I need to know what it is at the client device I’m using. So maybe it’s my imagination.

The Netgear Nighthawk App does run the Speedtest between the router and the test system in the cloud - not the speed the mobile client. The App is very clear about this:

Well, wireless (any standard) is a highly variable target. Performance does vary depending on distance, obstacles, interferences, ... And what application does require >1 Gb/s on a mobile phone? No matter if we talk of 5G (mobile) or WiFi 6 (802.11ax) - both technologies are aimed to provide concurrent fast access for many systems, not blinding peak performance to one.
