RAX48 - How to get USB drive to show up in Windows 10?
I had an old Linksys router that had a USB drive connected to it. No problems other than the drive acting slow sometimes. I needed a faster router with better range. I found a good deal on an RAX48. ...

If you are trying to map the network share, first open a file explorer window, and then head to network (it will let you know if the proper services are enabled).
Often the easiest way to map the drive after confirming the proper services are enabled, is to enter in \\router IP into the address bar of the folder.
For example, if your router is on 192.168.1.1 then you will type in \\192.168.1.1
once the drive shows up (the name can vary), you can right click on the drive, and then map it.
With the above in mind, there are a few things that can cause issues. If you are using any applications that intrfere with local traffic or DNS functions, e.g., most VPN applications, especially if they offer a split tunnel function. The network mapping may not function while the VPN software is running. Beyond that, the guest network will not allow access to the USB storage unless local access is enabled.

Wanted to further clarify the VPN app aspect of things. If a VPN application is set to allow local traffic, it will often still cause mapping issues, but after a drive is mapped, it will continue to work fine when the VPN software is subsequently launch.
It is a common bug, as the companies making these applications don't seem to test for such a use case, and they offer no good way to report the issues either.

No VPN. I tried your instructions and they work on desktop (wired). I can't get it to work on laptop (wireless).
\\192.168.1.1 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contract the administrator of this server to find out if you have permissions. Access is denied."

If you go to the network folder in the file explorer window, does it warn you that the network discovery service is disabled?
