RAX75 Blinking WPS

I just upgraded from my older R8300. Well I don’t know if I actually did... that’s another pot of coffee... the RAX75 I have just has a continually blinking WPS logo on the upper right side. Does not go solid, so I’m not able to connect any range extenders. Do I have a defective device?
BTW - bought a mesh kit and that too under performed...

  • Which firmware are you on?

You can setup most range extenders using the installation wizard and not using wps. Its actually the method I prefer to use.

What extender where you trying to setup with it and describe more about how it underperformed? I'd like to hear more.

Just an fyi, dual band extenders take a 50% performance hit just based on how they work. They have to recieve and then restransmit using the same wireless chip and can't do both at once. Its why their performance is less. The tribands mitigate that a bit.

I am trying to connect it to TP-LINK RE450. I ran a speed test before removing my old R8300, both wired and wireless; then I ran the mesh MR60 both wired and wireless. The R8300 had better results. The RAX75 or 80 since i don't see a 75 in the list of products has a significanlty higher upload but not much of a huge gain in regard to download to warrant the extra cost. I've crossed that bridge, and i will be getting updated computers and tablets so I will be able to see the difference. I just lost connection again on my TPLINK w/this new router... not looking too good netgear

Since updating to v1.0.3.88, have you tried a factory reset and reinstall at all? the RAX devices were released before the AX spec was even finalized. They've many times responded well to a full reset and reinstall after firmware changes if there's been issues. there's also a hot fix (security fix) for version 1.0.3.92. might try installing that, then the factory reset, reinstall.

The RE450 is a dual band extender, its going to take the same speed hit as standard extenders do. Its also from tp-link. tough to say if its the router causing the issue or the extender without more testing/messing with it. many things impact extenders speeds/stability. This could be environmental factors, placement factors, wireless interference, or even the adapter itself.

Same with the MR60 system. Its a dual band mesh system, not a triband. A mesh system isn't going to have the same speed as a single router solution as its designed to have better average throughput, not a higher peak. Any of my CAX80, C7800, RAX200 will blow my orbi system out of the water if they're close to them. but with distance, the mesh system shines. Plus its a dual band system so its not going to have the same speed as a triband mesh system because it doesn't have the dedicated wireless/wired backhaul the triband systems do. Same issue as what the extenders run into when they don't have a dedicated backhaul.

Even if you update tablets/pc's you might not see a whole lot of speed difference with the AX system. One of the main benefits to the AX spec was the ability to transmit/receive congruently. Meaning the router can talk to devices at the same time versus one at a time with the prior spec. It did have a little speed improvement but not as much as the change from wifi 4 to wifi 5. (wireless-n to wireless ac)

I am getting more disconnects with the Mesh & RAX75 system! It’s a JOKE! My 3 y/o router is more stable than the 2 systems I purchased in the last 4 days!!! With upgraded internet! Wow! netgear this is so LAME!
