RAX80 - Attache a external hard drive
From Australia, Melbourne
I'm looking at getting an External Hard Drive to connect to my router nighthawak RAX80
I've looked at the ones where recommened on the Netgear web site. I can't get them any more with the same model number.
Has anybody used a different EHD that works fine with the same router I've got?

Avoid anything too big. > 4TB seems to cause problems. And anythijng that requires fancy drivers or has complicated partitioning.
The technology isn't router specific. What works for others should be OK on the RAX80.
I have a 4 TB WD Elements on an R7800.

Agreed, but I would just baseline this that in general the "storage" functionality on Netgear (or other router vendors for that matter) is VERY limited and can impact other Router performance if you push it too hard and sometimes accessibility/security issues crop up. For smaller storage It's not a bad point option but if you're going to have a decent use-case for shared storage I'd recommend something separate from the router.
If you want to use your own drive, for less than $100 (US), the Synology DS120j isn't too bad for single-drive attachment (also has some nice backup options). It can be a bit complicated if you're new to network-attached-storage, and has a lot of extra features and options that can take longer to setup, but it's likely the most flexible for the price. https://www.synology.com/en-us/products/DS120j.
To keep it simple, the Western Digital My Cloud series isn't half bad for the price: https://shop.westerndigital.com/products/cloud-storage/wd-my-cloud-home#WDBVXC0020HWT-NESN
Just a few options, but hopefully this helps. Netgear ReadyShare has not been the most robust from my experiences.
