    An own DNS server would make management much more difficult, as you have to reserve IP addresses on the router (or put static configs on the devices), and then manually add entries on the DNS server.

     

    dnsmasq can takethe hostname specified as part of the DHCP process, and autometically serve for a local domain. 

     

    Again, Netgears specs from 1990.

     

    ChristineT  Christian_R  that's again food for your discussions with the consumer people - these features are standard on modern consumer routers elsewhere (for years [Google DNS] resp decades local LAN DNS). All features overdue on all Netgear routers (not just the new ones).
