RAX80 regularly disconnects devices, then they reconnect
I recently “upgraded” from an R8000 thinking I would have better connectivity and faster speeds. Since purchasing the RAX80 I continually have devices drop their connection at random, then they reco...

My experience with this problem is slightly different. In my case, the RAX80 simply slows a specific (random) system's connection down to a crawl. Rebooting the system dows nothing to fix this. The only fix I've found so far is to reboot the router and problem is gone.
Tech support has suggested changing the MTU setting to 1468. (Advanced>setup>Wan Setup) So far, I haven't noticed any improvement from this.
So they made another suggestion I haven't had the opportunity to check out yet. Here it is:
">>click on advanced on the top of the page
>>Then Select Advanced Setup
>>under Advanced Setup click on Advanced Wireless setting
under Wireless Advanced Settings (2.4GHz b/g/n) under Fragmentation Length (256-2346): changed the number 2346 to 2300
for CTS/RTS Threshold (1-2347): change the number from 2347 to 2301
do the same for Wireless Advanced Settings (5GHz a/n/ac)
Hit apply.
After this please observe the connection at least six hours."Perhaps this is worth a try. I have some other problems with this box. If they can't resolve them, I'g going to ask NetGear to buy the RAX80 back or replace it with something that is stable enough to actually work correctly. - My own optinion is that they shouldn't be messing with public domain code to run this box, generally, this has too many glitches and security issues. - You'd think they could afford to have professionals writing the firmware for these systems.

So I am back to report my 2nd test of the Rax80 using the new .88 firmware. I first allowed it to run for 1 week without intervention or plugging in any USB drives. Router ran flawless for a full week requiring no attention. So I then plugged in my 2TB passport drive. After about 6 hours, I began to have issues with the router as I suspected. I then removed the drive, and rebooted. Ran flawless for another week. I then added a different USB drive which was my Passport 4TB drive. (a few years newer model) After plugging it in, I have not had any issues and the router has not required any intervention. There are a few things still that need attention in the firmware, but for now and for the first time, I can actually use this router and not have to box it back up. Some of the things I see that need fixed: the Nighthawk app reports things that are wireless as wired, and has incorrect labeling of frequency on some devices. The Speedtest in the Nighthawk app and in the Qos, seems to have difficulty communicating with the router and has a horrible lag in its function, unlike how it works with my R8500. Other than that, I think it's working rather well. Wireless speeds are consistently pulling 500+Mbps and I have not seen any degradation of signal strenth or speed. The Qos seems to work well, and the OFDMA is working also from what I can tell. I'm currently running over 39 devices and not any issues with any of them. So in conclusion, I think after almost 2 years, this thing is finally working. Sad though that by the time it gets fully fixed the next generation of junk will be on the market from Netgear, and this will be on the End-of-Life list for Netgear.

Cliff that's interesting about the USB connection.
On my router I had a wyze webcam powered from the USB port.
The cable had only 2 pins for the 5 volt power so there's no physical connection to the tower only a power draw.
I am using the same with my ex8000 now and it causes no issue.
Perhaps the USB port is drawing too much current which is causing the main router to malfunction??
If this was really the problem it would indicate a hardware issue but I'll try it with the USB cam when u next try the firmware 88.

So my last test involved connecting/removing different USB drives. I had thought that my last USB drive was working well, but this morning once again I had a complete internet loss I believe due to this drive being connected. Before I connected any drives, I had almost 3 weeks of flawless operation. So with USB drives connectedI I seem to get router failure anytime between 1-4 days. So my conclusion right now, is it will work fine until you start to use the USB ports. I did also notice I had much difficulty transferring files to the drive through the network, and data transfer was extremely slow (wireless) even though my wireless speeds are very good 500mbps plus real-time. So I will continue to use the router without drives and continue my testing.
