RAXE290 2.4 ghz networks no longer work, citing incorrect secuurity in logs

My router has all of a sudden started rejectiing all of my devices for the 2.4 GHz spectrum, the logs say they have incorrect security, yet nothing has changed. It seems the 2.4 Ghz radio security is now broken.
Router Firmware Version V1.0.7.62_1
I have attempted to change the password and the SSID with the same results.

What does "attempted to change" mean? You tried and failed? Or that changing the SSID didn't have any effect?

    The router's logs?

What do the WiFi clients say?

Have you tried a reset of the router?

How do I perform a factory reset on my NETGEAR router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support

You can reduce the hassle of reconfiguring all those settings by creating a backup of your settings before you reset. Then if something is still broken after the reset, and the new firmware has not fixed it, you can restore the device to its pre-reset state.

You could even try restoring the settings even if the new firmware has fixed the problems, but be prepared for the restore to also bring back your problems.

The factory reset is more a "witchcraft" move than a technically informed solution, but it does seem to fix problems, especially on the wifi front. It is also the first thing that Netgear support will recommend.

It might also help if you told people what the modem is in front of this router, if there is one. The make and model number could be useful. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?

The reason for asking is that a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

As in I changed the password and then I changed the SSID, all attempts yielded the same result. I also tried changing the security from WPA 2 to WPA3 with the same results for the 2.4 ghz band network.

The 5 and 6 Ghz band networks work perfectly so I know the modem is not an issue. But my 2.4 Ghz only devices can not work with those bands.

Some Wifi clients say "cannot connect to network" , others say "incorrect password" and others say "offline" they are all different devices.

I read a similar case in which the user had to do a factory reset, not an ideal answer, so I am reporting this so they can fix the bug. Since my "complimentary" support conveniently expired when this situation started. I already have the latest firmware.

Not an ideal answer, I admit.

  • Is it all 2.4ghz devices or just some?

    what one's are they?

Are you using any special characters/spaces in the ssid/password?
