It probably wouldn't solve your problems, but as long as you can get a wired local connection into the router you don't have to be on line to update firmware. You can download the firmware with whatever you are using to access this place. Use a USB drive to transfer it to a PC if needed. Unzip and then go through the manual update with the router.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. That’s precisely what I did; however, connecting it via a local cable with a Mac proved tricky as I needed additional equipment. I worked through all the troubleshooting instructions I could find online and ultimately resolved the issue by resetting the NBN modem and router multiple times. Eventually, I was able to access the router’s advanced setup interface, and everything functioned smoothly from that point.
What I found unacceptable was the attitude of the Netgear support staff during my second call. The representative was extremely rude and dismissive, forcing me to terminate the call. I was shocked by his tone and the audacity to speak to a customer in that manner.
I am currently trying to locate a feedback form to report this experience but haven’t found one yet. Overall, my impression of Netgear’s support has been disappointing so far.

I didn't want to make life even more complicated, but you can do the manual update with a wifi link to the router. A standalone browser can also bring up a web browser and the graphical user interface (GUI). It isn't recommended, mostly because wifi has a habit of falling over, which is the last thing you want to happen when you are updating firmware.

I hope you weren't talking to one of those scam merchants that pop up when you Google "Netgear support". They just want your money. They can also do much damage to your network by conning you into allow them direct access.

Hi folks, thank you all for your responses. I did manage to fix my problem. First I connected the RAXE500 to the internet via my old router to complete the firmware upgrade. But that was only part of the solution. I rang iiNet support to find out all the settings required for connection.
I am a Mac user as well. The Nighthawk App doesn’t work on MacBooks. Using it on a iPhone or iPad doesn’t give you access to all the admin functions you need. I ended up borrowing a PC, which enabled me to bypass the Nighthawk App via a link that said something like “not using a smart phone, click here”. Then I could get to the router’s admin area to make the change to the VLAN ID required for iiNet.
So some feedback for Netgear, in order to try to make their devices more consumer friendly via an app, it has actually made it much harder for anyone requiring different settings to the default. At least make the app MacBook friendly and add an access point, maybe an advanced tab, to all the admin functions.

Next time, you can use any Mac supported browser on your mac book to access the routers web page.
NH app is only supported on phones and pads.
PCs and Laptops use a web browser.
Glad you got it working. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

Thanks. It wasn’t my thread in the first place and I see the original is already marked as solved.
I did try using a web browser on the MacBook but all I would get was a webpage that wanted me to download the app. I tried different browsers, same result.

Next time you see that web page in the browser, scroll DOWN to the bottom of that page to find a link that starts the setup wizard with in the browser.
