RAXE500 wifi speeds dropped
I've had a RAXE500 for about a year and in the past two weeks the wifi speeds have dropped off. I did not make any changes to the router in the months prior to the speeds dropping off. firmware: ...
Turns out a neighbor has a new device on channel 48 (160MHz wide) that is flooding nearby channels. I moved to channel 112 and speeds returned to normal. I don't really want to use a DFS channel but nobody else is in the higher bandwidth so I'll stick with that for now. Side note: I was also able to get better performance by selecting a channel further away (36) and lowering the throughput (channel width) to 1200Mbps, but it still wasn't as good as just moving to a much higher channel.
The router does not feel excessively hot. The fan cycles at reboot, it is not running now.
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.
What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Smart Parental Controls or Circle, Traffic Meter.

Is wifi network traffic treated differently by the ONT from ethernet network traffic?

I measured throughput at the wall port the router is plugged into and it is identical to the throughput directly at the ONT. The cable connecting the wall port to the router came with the router. I measured wired throughput from the router and that only has a relatively small loss. It appears to me that the connection between the router and WAN is functioning properly.

Glad you got it working. Please mark your thread as solved so others will know. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
