Replaced WNDR3700 router w/ AX1800, kept SSD & encryption but saved WiFI pwds on devices don't work

Hi,

We replaced our faithful old WNDR3700 with a new AX1800. I kept the same SSID and WiFi password, and made sure the new router specified the same encryption as the old one (WPA2-Personal [AES] / WPA2 PIK [AES]).

I expected all of our phones and smart devices to seamlessly keep working.

Problem: But every single one has required us to re-enter the password. This is quite a chore for a lot of smart devices.

I have the latest firmware and tried a factory reset, but that made no difference.

Anyone know what is wrong or how to fix this? Thx.

  • I've had my same ssid through wireless N, AC, and now AX. Never had an issue with them not connecting when I swapped to a newer device.

You might make sure there isn't any spaces or special characters in the ssid/password.

Thx for the reply. The SSID must match because I only had to enter the password. And the password contains only lower case letters plus numbers. 15 chars total.

Before the AX1800, I temporarily tried a borrowed AC1750 to try and I did not have to re-enter passwords with that.

So I wonder what is different with the AX1800. Maybe a firmware bug or some quirk?
