Slow download speeds on ethernet
I received my RAX200 3 days ago. When setting it up i updated the firmware to the latest version and didnt make much changes at all besides renaming the wifi bands. I have a 1gb connection, and the r...

I reported issue earlier this year for RAX80 and other users confirmed turning QoS ON and then OFF after a reboot fixed it... a Netgear rep said they would look into it... has been 6 months and still no fix after multiple updates. I was interested in upgrading to RAX200 but seems to have same issues as RAX80... Honestly I'd probably just return the router while you still have a chance... I haven't seen a single post all year or review that had anything good to say about gigabit speed support and Netgear doesn't seem to care since most people don't notice issue since they don't have gigabit connection.

unfortunately none of these suggestions made any difference. what did solve my issue is amazon replacing this router and the new router works good and im getting 950mbps down now.

After my last response everything was working great. Today i wake up do a speed test, again im at 300mb. Router internal speed test showing 940mb. This is just crazy. issue looks to be with the product itself and nto the specific router i received because this is the 2nd one

I dont understand how you can mess up straight through ethernet wired connection if your a router company. been with netgear almsot 20 years now. last night i was getting over 900mbp and just ran another speed test (attached) under 300.
when is the firmware patch to fix this coming? i will be refunding this by end of next week if i cant figure this out.

Are you sure you followed steps correctly? You need to reboot router first and then when it comes on goto QoS.... turn on QoS and wait a minute or so.... then turn QoS off.
If you reboot the router again have to do it all over again... turn on QoS... wait a few minutes... turn off QoS.

yea i followed your instructions exactly, it took my internet speed from 250s to 350s, not 950s.

Do you have Traffic Meter on? I noticed that can cause it slow down also.
- Marat2k6Oct 11, 2019Tutor
Traffic Metter is off.
Heres something weird that happened yesterday, I changed the wifi name of one of the 3 wifi bands and all of a sudden the two wired desktops i have started to get full 950mbps speed. Not sure how this is supposed to be related but since yesterday night when i did this, i still have good speeds.

So the speed has been good for last couple days. One thing i noticed that hasnt happened on my R8500, if im playing a game on my pc that doesnt use much bandwidth at all, like tops 2mbs, that pc's speed drops to like 400-500. As soon as i turn it off, speed back up to 950.
Also as above while playing this game, my samsung tv wired to the rax200 which reads my videos from my synology nas box (wired to the rax200) starts to lag. If i stop the game, no more lag. Dont understand why that is affecting data transfer speeds on the local network. Was not the case on the R8500 or the R6200 i had prior.

This is the exact behavior I am seeing. Something in the router firmware is placing hard caps on bandwith during constant "pulls" on the connection even when there is plenty of bandwitdth available. Most easily noticeable on gigabit plus connections.
This happens with QOS on or off or reset or not. Makes the router unusable.
- Marat2k6Oct 15, 2019TutorHoping this can be fixed by a firmware update. I do like the improved wifi6 speeds but having cap on LAN transfers is a problem for me.
- ChAKiBrOsNov 06, 2019Guide
I'm having same issue on RAX80. Just found out that speed was capped after time sync with NTP server.
- Marat2k6Nov 06, 2019TutorAny work around for this yet?
- ChAKiBrOsNov 06, 2019Guide
Factory reset, enable and disable QOS, reboot so many times but nothing can help, hope netgear engineers can fix it by firmware update.
- Marat2k6Nov 21, 2019TutorSo new firmware update recently came out. 1.10
Change log says improved stability. Here's how it improved my stability so far...
- Right after update, my internet speeds top at 300mbps on my 1gb connection
- factory reset the router and set up my settings again now getting around 500-600mbps. Still not what it used to be.
- couple of my devices like my Samsung TV multiple times a day say network cable had been unplugged for a few min and then it reconnects
So far looks like this update was a step in the wrong direction - Marat2k6Dec 01, 2019TutorThe problems continue...
Yesterday the 3rd wifi signal turned off. In the settings it's on. I tried toggling it off and on...nothing. this $600 triband router now became dual band. Today devices connected to the 2nd wifi signal disconnect and reconnect happened already 5 times in last 2 hrs. My tv and my desktop that are directly connected to the router through Ethernet, get disconnected and reconnected. Says cable unplugged and 2min later it's connected again.
Now I'm gonna have to call support and see if this $600 garbage of a product can be replaced with something that actually works. - avtellaDec 01, 2019ProdigyJust ask for a RAX120, it uses a superior Qualcomm chipset. Qualcomm usually implements new features in a more stable and functional manner.
The RAX200 is essentially just an RAX80 with an extra 5Ghz band + 2.5Gb Eth port, same Broadcom WiFi chipset.
I highly doubt even even with numerous devices a triband would really make much of a difference, from my own experience. - Marat2k6Dec 04, 2019TutorSo after spending hours troubleshooting this router and finally calling support. I told them I work in IT and I've done all the troubleshooting I know plus everything I've heard they requested in their community forms. They wanted me to do all steps again while I'm on the phone before they can replace it for me. Asked for manager... Nothing.
So here's what I did I hung up on their idiotic support, I called amazon received my return label, got my money back. Ordered an Asus RT-AX88U. Record it and after a 10 min install... I have no bandwidth issues, no disconnect issues, ax band works great. And I got it on Black Friday for $250 instead of $600 and a load of headaches - mikeshinnDec 16, 2019Aspirant
OMG the phone support is maddeningly bad. I've got the same issue. Speeds are half of what they should be as everyone else has reported.
Aside form the fact that I worked for Cisco as a developer (so I've already done everything imaginable myself) they had me basically do things that wouldnt really matter, specifically: 1) manually upload the firmware (the same version the router already had installed), 2) change a the wireless channels (even though I'm running the tests from a workstation plugged directly into the router, and I told them that multiple times), and then 3) change the MTU to 1492 (theres ZERO chance thats the problem, and it wasnt). So really, the phone support was meaningless, it was all changes that wouldnt have made any difference. And then told me the troubleshooting couldnt fix it, and to to watch it for the next 12 hours - to see if its still not working correctly. Now thats a first, "yes your product is not working corrrectly now wait 12 hours and let us know if its still broken."
But then the support person tried to sell me kind of extended warranty, for a "one time fee" which made no sense at all to me because I just bought this router and he told me its still under warranty. And he kept trying to get me to buy it. Hey I'm a resonable guy, Im the CEO for a start up for goodness sake I'm pretty forgiving about technical issues these things happen, but clearly theres something wrong with these routers and the L1 people have no idea how to handle it, and they dont seem to know what to do.
Guess I'll be calling them back tomorrow to report the exact same thing I did today.
With that said, I did try some experiments and for what its worth I turned off "Portscan and DOS protection" under advanced and that consistently helped with upload speed at least (its went from 385Mbps to 935Mbps). So for anyone struggling with this, try that and it might help with upload. It did nothing to help with download. So definitely one data point, would love to know if anyone elses router performs differently when that is disabled. I'll see if I can find something equivalent for the Download side of things.
- mikeshinnDec 16, 2019Aspirant
And if anyone is wondering where that is, its under Advanced -> Setup -> WAN Setup. And you should see a "Disable Port Scan and DOS Protection" option. In my case, disabling fixed the upload speed problem, but did not fix the download problem. So my guess is theres something doing some kind of equivalent inspection thats slowing downloads down. (QOS is also disabled on my rouer, enabling it had no positive effect on download speeds either).
- Marat2k6Dec 16, 2019TutorSo many people reporting same issue and people going through same troubleshooting steps with Netgear phone support and nothing helps. Of course they don't want to admit they released a bad product that was not tested properly.
Best solution is to get another wifi6 router not from Netgear - rob19aDec 31, 2019Aspirant
Im having the same issue. Router wont go above 400 Mb. I have a 1 gig connection so I should be seeing at least 900mb a sec.
This Rx router is trash. Come on netgear do better!!!
- mikeshinnJan 02, 2020AspirantI had to switch back to the version fios router in addition to the problems with the download speeds being halved, the wireless was also having problems and devices were randomly disconnecting. I’m hopefully Netgear can fix the problems with the router because the router is unworkable right now.
- Marat2k6Jan 02, 2020TutorYea this is unacceptable for such an expensive device. The Asus ax router I got after I returned the netgear has no issues

I ended up switching to an AirPort and that solved all my issues. I decided to give Netgear a chance again since Apple stopped making routers... and here I am lol. I don't mind some bugs but seems a bit ridiculous for basic features to not work or have to disable everything purchased it for just to get it to work as well as a cheaper model.

I've given up hope on a fix after reading about same issues all year. All I can do is check here daily for some updates... was hoping to see someone say they finally found a fix but so far only consistent fix I've seen all year is to return the router.

I'm seeing the same thing on a RAX120. Fast after reboot and then slows down to the 180-300 range. All I want is gig speeds and I'm within my 15 days so I might end up returning it and getting something else
