Upgrading to a new router with existing account
I am about to purchase a RAX36 router to replace an old (8-10 years old) Netgear model. I already have a admin/password login for the 192.168.1.1 site from that old model. Is there anything I need to be aware of to avoid problems before proceeding with the set up of the new router? Do most people prefer to use the app to set up the new router or the ethernet route?
"Most people" probably use the smartphone app to set up their new WiFi router. The "Old Timers" on the Community Forum generally prefer using a computer connected to an Ethernet port and the web interface. There are features that the smartphone app simply cannot access.
The general practice is to configure the new WiFi router with exactly the same WiFi credentials as the one being replaced. That allows every WiFi device to discover and connect to the new router immediately without needing any configuration. Saves time and hassle. It also allows you to "go back" to the previous system simply by plugging it back in.
It is also a good practice to go through the web interface and make a screen shot of every page you have configured. Save to a Word or PDF file.

Once you get the new router set up be sure to save off a backup configuration to file.
Saves time if a reset is needed.
