VPN Nighthawk AX5 RAX30 not connecting

Hi,

I have a Nighthawk AX5 RAX30 with firmware V1.0.13.102_2.  I am using the Open VPN client using version 3.5.1 (6211) on my iPhone 16 Pro iOs 18.3.  I have the VPN setup as per the instructions provided.  Everything had been working fine up until a week ago.  I can no longer connect.

Open VPN responds with:

There was an error attempting to connect to the selected server.

Error Message: UNKOWN/UNSUPPORTED OPTIONS: dev-node

Unsupported option (ignored): resolv-retry,persist-key,persist-tun

First I tried turning off the VPN service off, power cycle, and turn VPN service on.  That did not work.  Also, if I try connecting with the VPN service off, I get the same Open VPN response.  So I think it's an iOS issue.  Next, I tried using the Open VPN client on my sister's MacBook Pro.  This worked.  This tells me that the VPN service is active on the RAX30.

I noticed today there was a new iOS update iOS 18.3.1.  Oddly, there wasn't a red badge with a "1" indicating attention.  Installation was successful but the Open VPN still doesn't connect.

Does anyone else have this issue?  I will post on the Open VPN site.

  • Open VPN promptly responded. They couldn’t specifically support the router but made a suggestion to fix the Open VPN client.

    1) Download the smartphone ovpn file from the router.
    2) Edit the ovpn file by deleting the whole line item containing “dev-node NETGEAR-VPN”.
    3) Save
    4) Delete the mmkv file (if it exists) and Import newly edited ovpn file into the iPhone using the Mac or PC.
    5) Open the Open VPN app and install the new certificate.

This resolved my VPN connection issues.
