This might be a key factor. When a product clearly does not meet claims printed on the box, I would think the consumer has a valid reason to return it for a full refund. In this case, however, waiting a year to notice the discrepancy creates a bit of a quandary.

As usual, consumer rights depend on the laws in the country of purchase. Since this is an international forum, it generally doesn't lead to a fruitful conversation here.
That doesn't mean dsg88 and Peter-R can't pursue a return, just that the options for resolution (if any) will depend on the country (and might be not the same in Australia and the Netherlands).
