"Smart" Parental Controls won't even let me filter

I used to use the OpenDNS router-level filtering, but that's not supported anymore. When I got my new Netgear Nighthawk, they advertised parental controls. "Some" advanced features required subscription, but I can't even set my kids' age limit. They all just say "Unlock Premium." How can you advertise content filtering if there's literally nothing you can do for free?

Netgear used to be the best routers, so I (foolishly) assumed that the new ones would still work the same way my old ones did. But it's all a money grab.
